The fear of being vulnerable, a distrust of institutions, and social stigma have left many choosing silence over support. BuzzFeed News learns about a project focusing on solutions. Lionel Biu, a 31-year-old black British man, was brought up in a culture that emphasised “not telling [anyone] your business, being strong, and being confident”. “In my family it was very much known that you don’t tell anyone about your issues,” Biu, whose parents are Nigerian migrants, told BuzzFeed News. Mental health, therefore, was barely spoken about.
